The State Service Exam, also known as the MPSC Rajyaseva Exam, is held by the commission to recruit Group A and Group B officers for the Maharashtra state government’s several administrative branches. We have devised the detailed MPSC Rajyaseva Exam selection process for all the candidates who are appearing for the exam.
The MPSC Rajyaseva examination has three following selection stages:
- Prelims Exam.
- Mains Exam.
- Interview Round.
To be eligible for stages 2nd and 3rd, a candidate must pass the previous stage, i.e., the candidate must pass the prelims to qualify for the mains exam, and after passing the mains, the candidate will be called for the Interview, which is the final stage of the MPSC Rajyaseva Selection Process. Now we will discuss these three selection stages in detail:
- Prelims Exam
This is the preliminary exam for the MPSC Rajyaseva exam, which will function as a qualifier for the mains exam. The MPSC prelims test is divided into two parts, both of which are objective. Both papers are required to be completed.
The aspects of the MPSC Prelims exam format are summarised in the table below:

Important Points to Keep in Mind for the MPSC Rajyaseva Prelims Exam:
- The MPSC prelims exam will have two papers, each carries 200 marks. Each paper will be given two hours.
- Marks of both MPSC question papers will be used to determine whether candidates will be eligible for the next stage, the MPSC mains.
- To be eligible for the Main exam, candidates must score at least 33% in the Prelims.
- Candidates should be aware that wrong responses will result in a negative mark.
- For each wrong answer, 1/4 of the marks given to that question will be deducted (please note that formerly the deduction was 1/3rd of the marks allocated to the question).
- Even if you answer a question wrong, you will not receive a negative mark on the decision-making questions in paper II.
- Mains Exam
Candidates who meet the MPSC cutoff marks, as determined by the state commission, are eligible to appear for the MPSC Rajyaseva Mains Exam and are given an admit card to do so.

Important Points to Keep in Mind for the MPSC Rajyaseva Mains Exam:
- The MPSC Rajyaseva Mains Exams have a total of 800 marks.
- For each incorrect answer, the MCQ-based questions in the Mains exams get a negative marking of 1/4 mark.
- In Paper-II, there are no negative markings for wrongly answered questions in the decision-making section.
- The following are the qualifying marks for each category in the MPSC Mains exam paper:
- For General Category – 45 marks.
- For Reserved Category – 40 marks.
- Interview Round
The MPSC selection procedure comes to a close with this stage.
Candidates that pass the MPSC prelims and mains will be allowed to participate in the last phase, which is the Interview round, commonly known as the Personality test.
- A panel of qualified and neutral MPSC board members will interview the candidates.
- This round assesses the candidate’s soft skills, mental acuity, aptitude, and other characteristics, making it more of a personality test.
- The candidate should be up to date on current events in India and throughout the world.
